Michael McDonald on Twitter has created something that a devout following would call a work of art in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. With a little help from friends, they have recreated the introductory scene from the beloved King of the Hill with near 100% accuracy in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The clip itself is only 30 seconds long, right on par with the source material. It features the bulk of the King of the Hill cast, including Hank, Dale, Bill, and Boomhauer.
There are only a few details missing from the otherwise faithful recreation, likely due to the limitations of setting up the scenes and putting in additional players. Notably missing are the garbage collectors, utility worker arriving and setting up on the pole, the couch being put out and collected by neighbors, Bobby riding his bike around Ladybird, Luanne departing with her boyfriend on his motorcycle, and the final scene with Peggy bringing out the garbage for Hank to dispose of. But these are minor details when compared to the overall tone that is captured.
Otherwise, there are plenty of villagers wandering the street and clouds passing overhead casting convincing shadows for the day passing. However, the cherry on top is the recreation of the title card complete with the villager Hank's head spinning around as "King of the Hill" shifts into focus. It's an amazing touch on a short and sweet video.
More ambitious players have taken on larger tasks and recreated entire scenes or areas from other games. Some notable recreated iconic scenes include the iconic "Aurora Borealis" scene from The Simpsons, Mew under the truck urban legend from Pokemon, and Lil Nas X's Montero music video. Taking things a step further, some players have recreated entire areas from other games. These include the recreated Mabe Village from Link's Awakening and Pokemon's Colosseum City.
There is an entire rabbit hole of content that players and fans can fall down when looking for recreations and homages to other popular titles. From the first act of Hamilton to songs from Disney's Hercules, there doesn't appear to be any limit to the creativity from this passionate fan base. And now, King of the Hill fans have their own little nod in this wonderful game and even better community.
